A dive into the past is needed before
swimming in the clear waters of the sea close to the Masseria. A
step back to discover the “trappeto”: an underground
oil-mill excavated on the rocks, the ideal place for the oil-making.
Magic places frequented by artisans with ancient names: zuccaturi,
fogliari, cavamonti. Underground cradles when olive oil rest and
ripen far from human presence to become Liquid Gold, the sacred drink
for gods, for Phoenician and for us all.
Our Masseria is called Trappeto del Re since it had the most important
and biggest underground oil-mill of all the area. Its wall made of
lime, its square-shape plant, its windows in front of the sea and
the olives, all these tell us about a story started in the 19th century.
Surrounded by vegetable gardens and citrus plantations, the Masseria
was a farmhouse dedicated to cultivation and preservation of the
land fruits.
In these last years this jewel has been completely refurbished, in
compliance with laws of Italian Department of Environment and Culture.
